LIEBHERR 556 | MOBILE PLANT FIRE SUPPRESSION

We recently installed a mobile plant fire suppression system on this Liebherr 556 wheel loader, providing robust fire protection for heavy machinery operating within the waste & recycling industry.

Why Does Mobile Plant Need Fire Suppression?

Wheel loaders and other mobile plant operate in high fire-risk conditions. The most common causes of ignition include:

  • Overheating engine components (DPF, turbo, exhaust manifolds)

  • Fuel or hydraulic fluid leaks

  • Electrical faults and high-current cabling

  • Battery faults and poor isolation

  • Dust, waste residue and debris build-up

Dual Agent Fire Suppression Installation on a Liebherr 556

This Liebherr 556 is protected using a dual agent fire suppression system. Dry powder provides rapid flame knockdown, while the delayed discharge of wet chemical cools hot surfaces and reduces the risk of re-ignition.

The installation images below show how the system components are positioned around the engine bay to protect the highest fire-risk areas of the machine.

Fire Risk in Waste & Recycling Environments

Waste and recycling sites expose wheel loaders to dust, debris, combustible materials and long operating hours. These conditions increase heat build-up in engine bays and raise the risk of fires caused by leaks, electrical faults or hot surfaces.

Automatic Fire Protection for Mobile Plant

Automatic fire suppression on machines like this Liebherr 556 provides fast detection and suppression at source. This helps reduce damage, limit downtime and protect operators working in high-risk environments.
