Kings Award - S08

Reacton Fire Suppression, Fireward’s sister company and the manufacturer behind the systems we install, has won the King’s Award for Enterprise in the Innovation category.

It’s the UK’s most prestigious business honour and an incredible recognition of the team’s hard work and the innovative products they’ve built

What Is the King’s Award for Enterprise and Why Does It Matter?

The King’s Awards for Enterprise recognise outstanding achievement by UK businesses across several categories, including innovation, international trade, and sustainability. It’s one of the highest honours available to UK businesses, and only 185 organisations won one this year.

Reacton’s award recognises its work designing, manufacturing and selling innovative automatic fire suppression systems that protect people, equipment and livelihoods worldwide.

That innovation didn’t happen overnight. The award represents more than a decade of hard work by the team and their passion for finding better ways to protect people and machinery.

As Sam Malins, Group CEO of Reacton and Fireward, explained to BBC Essex:

“I think when you love what you do, and you just get on with it and you’ve got a massive passion for getting things right, all of that hard work has now been recognised.”

The award belongs to everyone who helped get Reacton and Fireward where they are today. Every engineer who refined a system, every installer who used them to protect assets and every customer who trusted Reacton and Fireward to protect their business and people.

What Makes Reacton’s Systems So Innovative?

The King’s Award recognises the innovation in Reacton’s product range.

While other fire suppression systems rely on Electrical Linear Heat Detection and a separately mounted pressurised cylinder, Reacton’s systems use pressurised tubes that cover the highest-risk areas of the equipment.

When exposed to heat or flames exceeding 180°C, these tubes rupture at the point of ignition. The instantaneous pressure drop opens the system’s cylinder valve and discharges the suppression agent through strategically placed nozzles.

A Reacton system requires no human intervention or power. And because it operates without a delay, fires are controlled while they’re still small and often before the operator even knows there’s a problem.

That speed matters in the environments we work in. Whether it’s in the engine bay of a tractor or hydraulic compartment of a wheel loader, a fire can destroy millions of pounds worth of equipment, put operator lives at risk and bring business to a halt.

A UK Business with a Global Presence

British innovation is at the heart of everything the King’s Awards celebrate, and it’s something the Fireward and Reacton teams are incredibly proud of.

Reacton started as a handful of people in a small workshop with the belief that fire suppression could be better. Today, its systems protect equipment across the globe in industries as diverse as mining, agriculture and kitchens.

A lot has changed, but they still engineer, build, and refine every system in the UK. It’s one of the reasons we can stand behind the quality of every system we install and why you’ll soon find the King's Awards Emblem on every product, too.
